In our digital chapter, "Past Promises", David has been living in Sealand for three years, almost forgetting about his life back in Waknuk. He then has a dream of a place he once used to know, where there is a barren wasteland and a familiar man calling out to him. At first David is confused and doesn't remember who this man is. As the dream progresses, he starts to realize that the man is Michael and remembers that Michael stayed behind to look for Rachel. David wakes up and decides to search for Michael and Rachel. When he arrives in Waknuk, David senses a strong telepathic power that guides him to where Michael and Rachel are. It turns out that this telepathic call was emitted by the child of Michael and Rachel. Upon meeting with them, David realizes that this child has an ability no other telepath is capable of, not even Petra. In the last chapter of the Chrysalids, it left off with Michael and Rachel being left behind in the wastelands. There is no mention of them living in the wastelands or even surviving. To resolve this, we decided to include the rescue of Michael, Rachel and their newborn child. We also wanted to visually show the readers what Sealand looked like, in comparison to the wastelands. The main motif in this digital chapter, is "change". This motif is shown through the introduction of the newest character, the newborn child. In the previous chapters of the book, Petra is stated to be one of the strongest telepaths, due to her more revolutionized ability. We made another character that is even more powerful than Petra. This suggests that as the next generation comes in, their abilities will be greater than that of the previous generation. This digital chapter can also relate to real life. Many years ago, humans weren't as tall as we are now; but as time passed by, we grew to be the perfect height. Not only that, studies have shown that we are starting to not grow wisdom teeth because we don't use it. As you can see, humans are still evolving to became greater. Change is always happening.

Character Sketch- Sophie
Sophie Wender is a character in the novel, The Chrysalids. She is introduced as a young girl, having the mutation of six toes growing on her feet. David Storm is the first to find out about her deviation when she hurts her foot while playing with him. At this time, Sophie shows tolerance and bravery when she was in a lot of pain. "She was very brave. Nothing more than the puppy noises."- David Storm (pg. 9) Sophie also goes to great lengths from keeping David from knowing about her deviation. This shows shes fully knowledgeable at a young age of what the consequences are if anyone was to know about her deviation. For example, Sophie's foot gets caught and will only come out it David cuts the laces on her shoes. While in great pain, Sophie still refuses to take of her shoe. "No, I mustn't. Not ever. I mustn't"
(page 8). Another example is when David offers to get someone to help but instead Sophie responds, "No, I'll crawl," she said. Sophie crawls for a long way and by the end her knees are sore and bleeding. David Storm claims, "I had never known anyone, boy or girl, who would have kept on till that pitch; it awed me slightly." (pg.9). Later as the book progresses, Sophie is banished to the fringes. There Sophie has fallen in love with Gordan or the "Spider-man". She's very caring and compassionate. When David asks her if she is in love with the "spider-man". Sophie replies, "Oh, don't call him that-please-we can't any of us help being what we are. His name's Gordon, He's kind to me David. He's fond of me." (pg. 167). Another example is after she rescues David and asks him, "have they hurt you badly David" (pg.165). Without even knowing Sophie as a person, the people of Waknuk persecuted her. Her life was very difficult, yet she still carried on. Sophie was a very enjoyable, dynamic character.

English assignment in class para: The Infected
The school was in chaos. Blood was smeared against the lockers of the hallway, with mutilated bodies lying everywhere. Our class barricaded the door with desks and chairs, hoping that the infected wouldn't get to us but night was approaching us and that gave us the more reason to stay on guard.
A couple weeks ago we were invaded by an alien life-force. They exposed humans to a new virus that had deadly symptoms. I remembered when there was a live broadcast of the aliens saying, "The virus is to make you more like us. The final step for perfection." They were hideous beasts who's main objective was to control and kill.
We weren't sure when the virus would break out but gradually many began to fall under the effects of the virus, becoming brain-dead killing machines.
Our class seemed to be the only surviving people of the school, or even the entire city. The only thing on our minds was survival.
A snarl came from the other side of the door and the bolts began to loosen. More of the infected were breaking though our doors.
I screamed, "We need to get out of here! It won't hold for long" .
Santiago quickly looked out the window seeing if there was any infected nearby.
"If we quickly make a run for it, we might be able to make it through without getting killed."
"But what if they are there. We are defintely going to die if we run out there!" exclaimed Tom
Santiago glared "Its either that or we wait here like sitting ducks. At least outside we have somewhere to escape!"
We all looked at each other uneasily and agreed.
At the darkest hour of our lives, we ran as fast and far as we could. Not knowing where to go, but only looking for a place to hide. I could barely sleep that night, wondering if my family was still alive. It was a restless night for everyone.
The sun's rays shined through the window. I woke up, eyes and cheeks swollen from crying last night.
We were staying at a abandoned house that was empty before the aliens came. It was the only place that had no trace of the infected.
The class gathered in the living room. Athena was the first to break the dead silence.
"The best thing to do right now, is to stick together. There is more safety in numbers."
Mason was the next one to speak up, "We should also get some equipment like weapons and food."
I nodded and suggested, "Let's split up into three groups. The first group will gather food and supplies. The second will search for survivors and weaponry and the third group will stay here to keep watch. This house is now our home base."
Everyone murmured in agreement. We decided that Tommy, Santiago, Winston, Tom and Tony would look for survivors and weaponry. Tom, Mason, Daniel, Athena, Hana and I went to search for food and supplies. The rest wanted to stay in the house.
I didn't know how long this fight for survival would last but what I knew was that the time for the end of the world has come. There would be nothing to stop it.

Shakespeare Poem
Thy voice illuminates thine heart and awakens the nine muses to sing in harmony.
Thou art the fairest maiden, even Aprhodites could envy thine beauty.
Helio's chariot of fire burns across the sky endlessly just like mine love burns for you
Thou art the fairest maiden, even Aprhodites could envy thine beauty.
Helio's chariot of fire burns across the sky endlessly just like mine love burns for you
